The first university in Oklahoma to join the farm to school program and is being very progressive in their commitment to incorporate not only local produce but local product in most aspects of the multiple food service options that they provide on campus. They purchase through the statewide program as well as directly from local producers.
Fun activities included Chef Harry, spokesperson for the National Watermelon Promotion Board in the main cafeteria where the students were able to sample watermelon lemonade, watermelon salsa and watermelon with mozzarella cheese sandwiches and then create their own designer watermelon smoothie. Special guests included the Oklahoma Lt. Governor Jari Askins and OU Government Relations and past Oklahoma Legislator Russ Hilliard.
